5 Cost Cutting Tips for Better Costuming

1

Buy second hand fabrics, yes really!

A good quality fabric that has been washed many times and still catches the eye is often worth so much more than a cheap quality new fabric. Vintage prints can be found in  clothing thrift shops, duvet covers, curtains, or just donated older fabric lengths.

2

Make Mock ups and avoid wastage

Build up a stock of suitable fabrics just to make mock ups and toiles. Old polycotton bed sheets, old jeans, oversized dresses to cut down, old curtain linings, mock up fabric should be similar in weights and texture to your finished garment to achieve its purpose.

3

Make detailed lists for every project

Download my project work sheets and try to plan what you need for your outfit / costume as far in advance as you can. The more time you have to plan the better you can make economies and find those bargins.
